No score. We do not test games, and a number we cannot stand behind is worse than none.
Two scores, and they agree for once. Metacritic sits at 85 from the critics; Steam players are at 93% positive across 2,953 reviews. This site does not score games it cannot test — what follows is what the published numbers say and where the complaints cluster.
What the record supports
- Metacritic 85 from critics, and 2,744 of 2,953 Steam reviews positive — a 93% rating that has held since launch
- Four patches in the first three weeks (1.0.8 through 1.0.11), so the studio is visibly still on it
- 100,000 wishlists before release, which is unusual reach for an indie management RPG
- Six interface languages at launch: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese
Where the friction is
- Some recruits can be locked out by playing well — the Act 2 rebellion that brings Daguez appears to need a satisfaction meter below 20
- Players report spending rewinds to recover runs where a knight failed to appear, notably Oliver
- No macOS build; Windows and Linux only
- Valve has published no Steam Deck rating as of September 1, 2026
The complaint worth understanding before you buy
The negative reviews are a small minority, but the recurring theme in player discussion is not difficulty — it is opacity. Several knights arrive only if something goes wrong, and the conditions are stated nowhere in the game. Daguez comes through an Act 2 rebellion that never fires for players who keep every population group content. Oliver is meant to arrive around cycle 19 if you spared the knight in the prologue, and multiple players who did spare him reported never seeing him. The rewind mechanic is the intended answer to all of this, which lands well if you enjoy replanning a run and badly if you expected one clean playthrough. Every recruit route, including the caveats →
What this site can and cannot tell you
- Can: the published scores above, with their sources and counts.
- Can: what is verifiably in the game — 24 knights, 75 achievements, five endings, ten counties, six stats, four patches in three weeks.
- Cannot: whether it is fun for you. No hands-on testing happens here.
- Cannot: a playtime figure. None has been published, and the honest version of that answer is on the FAQ.
If you are still deciding, the platforms page covers the console and Mac questions, and the system requirements are unusually light — a 3 GB install with a GT 1030 floor.
